Lexie’s Change Table- Disability Home Modifications

change table

June’s Disability Home Modifications of the Month

The change table and triple stacking door installation provided for our client Lexie. Lexie is 7 years old and has Smith Lemli Opitz Syndrome, and has been unable to be toilet trained.

For the past 7 years, Lexie had been using an infant nappy change table, of which she had far outgrown around 4 years ago. She grew so long that her legs hung off the end and her head had to be placed on a pillow to ensure she didn’t hit her head on the wooden frame above.

By being so long, nappy changing became unhygenic and difficult to maintain sanitation when cleaning up. Lexi’s occupational therapist conducted an assistive technology assessment for a nappy change table that would suit her size and future proof her if she were to grow further.

Disability Home Modifications- Personalised for each client

The electric nappy change table installed means carers and support workers will no longer be required to lift Lexie onto the table as she can now place herself on the table when it is set to a low height, with the table having the ability to raise and lower in height with the push of a button.

The sheer size of the change table meant the Qspec team were required to replace the laundry door to ensure laundry access was possible. Our team installed a triple stacking door to increase the access area. Qspec also installed wall storage to hold Lexie’s nappies, wipes, creams and other cleaning products.

Lexie’s mum Megan expressed her delight with the Qspec tradesmen, with their friendly and helpful approach providing an easy process from start to finish. Megan would highly recommend Qspec to anyone requiring assistive technology and disability home modifications.
